How to Set Up Your QuickStudio Backdrop

Get the perfect background for every video call, live stream, or content creation session.

These setup recommendations help your physical backdrop look natural on Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, webcams, smartphones and recorded video.

1. Hang Your Backdrop

Your package includes Command hooks and a full pack of 16 Scotch removable mounting squares — no drilling needed. Horizontal backdrops include 4 Command hooks and have 4 top grommets; vertical backdrops include 2 Command hooks and have 2 top corner grommets.

Put the hooks up first, following the hanging instructions printed on your 3M Command packaging. Then hang the backdrop using the top grommets — for horizontal backdrops, space the 4 hooks evenly across the top edge (2 at the corners, 2 at the quarter points); for vertical backdrops, attach the 2 hooks at the top corners. With the backdrop positioned, use 4 of the included mounting squares behind the fabric to keep it flat and lightly stretched against the wall:

1 at the center of the top edge
1 at the center of the bottom edge
1 at the center of the left edge
1 at the center of the right edge

Smooth the fabric outward before pressing each mounting square into place. The four squares form a cross-shaped support pattern that helps reduce waves and keeps the backdrop looking flat on camera. The remaining squares in the pack are spares for repositioning or future use.

Horizontal backdrop (43" tall × 76" wide)

Install the 4 top hooks at approximately 70 in (5 ft 10 in) from the floor, evenly spaced across the top edge
The center of the backdrop sits at approximately eye level when seated
Ideal for waist-up framing on Zoom, YouTube, and livestreams

Vertical backdrop (76" tall × 43" wide)

Install the 2 top corner hooks at approximately 94 in (7 ft 10 in) from the floor
Maximizes vertical coverage for standing or seated shots
Ideal for Reels, TikTok, Shorts, and standing, three-quarter, and waist-up content

Note: If your ceiling is lower than 8 ft, or a shelf or molding is in the way, hang the vertical backdrop as high as the wall allows — the bottom edge will simply sit a little closer to the floor.

Tip: When hanging for the first time, go over the fabric with a handheld steamer to remove any creases from shipping. After a few minutes of hanging, most wrinkles will also fall out naturally.

2. Position Your Camera & Tripod

This applies the same way for both horizontal (16:9) and vertical (9:16) video:

Place your camera/phone approximately 54 in (4 ft 6 in) from the wall
Position the lens at eye level — never above or below, regardless of orientation
If seated, the lens should be approximately 43–47 in from the floor
If standing, approximately 61–67 in from the floor

3. Phone Settings

Aspect ratio: Switch to 16:9 for horizontal video; 9:16 for vertical
Resolution: Set to 4K if available, or 1080p minimum
Focus: Lock focus on your face before recording to prevent background blur shifts
Stabilization: Enable if your phone supports it

4. Lighting

Position the light directly behind or slightly beside the camera, facing you at eye level or slightly above. Do not place the light behind you or between you and the backdrop.
Distance from the wall: approximately 48–50 in, slightly to the side of the camera/phone
Natural light from a window to your side works well as a fill light

5. Final Check

Before going live or hitting record:

Backdrop hangs flat with no visible wrinkles
Hooks installed at the correct height (70 in for horizontal, 94 in for vertical) and correct count (4 evenly spaced for horizontal, 2 at the top corners for vertical)
Camera is at eye level
Phone set to 16:9 (or 9:16) and 1080p/4K
Light is directly behind or slightly beside the camera, 48–50 in from the wall, at eye level or slightly above
Camera/phone is approximately 54 in from the backdrop wall
